In the heart of lower east side, is a spot where the young, edgy NYC crowds go to see and be seen. I went on a friend’s recommendation not knowing what to expect except that I had to make a reservation (check) and walk into the pawnshop shopfront like I know what I’m doing (check). Everything else was an eye-opening and delicious experience.

Extra-large bouncers were guarding the back door of the pawnshop when we arrived, and as I strutted straight toward them, they opened the door to reveal a thumping, glittery entrance to a world of beautiful people, sparkling chandeliers, creative cocktails (read: free pour, heavy on the alcohol) and tasty sharing plates.

It’s a perfect spot especially for a girls’ glitzy night out. The waiter told me after I had placed our orders that there’s free champagne for ladies in the washroom. Yes, have some champers while others take a wee…all in the same room. It was quite a novelty but also kinda weird. I feel bad for anyone who has to go do a No.2 and find the party atmosphere a little disconcerting.

Hubby and I enjoyed a hip and happening night out nonetheless, and we downed a few cocktails along with finger-licking yums. The menu is split into the Raw Bar – we had the sashimi of tuna, Jewels on Toast where we had roasted bone marrow, Dinner plates – we ordered the Braised Chicken Tamales, ‘Chile Relleno’ Empanadas and some Sticky Glazed Ribs. The food was delicious, but at the end of the day it was the atmosphere that stole the show.

A little bit of glitz, a lot of alcohol and a full tummy makes a night out oh so fabulous. #ilovenyc

About droolfactor

It's all about my gastronomical journeys, and sometimes an inedible thought or two. One of the very nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing and devote our attention to eating. ~Luciano Pavarotti and William Wright, Pavarotti, My Own Story This is my personal journey where I devote my attention to eating, cooking, experimenting and taking chances. Anything I come across with a droolfactor worth sharing, it's here. I hope you'll enjoy this journey with me.
